It was a full house at the IV19 Autoware Workshop in June 9, 2019 in Paris at the 2019 IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium.
This was a first of its kind event co-located with IV19. The event consisted of presentations and tutorials about features in Autoware as well as applications that were built with Autoware. Around 100 people participated and saw 20 presentations/tutorials.
Attendees enjoyed keynotes from Shinpei Kato, founder of Autoware and Tier IV, Inc, Esteve Fernández, Autoware.Auto tech lead at Apex.AI, Inc. and Brian Gerkey, Founder and CEO of Open Robotics, the company behind the development of ROS, as well as other presentations such as Christopher Ho’s of Apex.AI talking about “3D Perception in Autoware.Auto”.
The 1-day Workshop was a chance for Autoware developers of all levels, beginner to expert, to learn about the community goals, roadmap and projects such as the Autonomous Valet Parking project, and to network with fellow developers and get tips & tricks from experts.
It was barely 8 months ago that the Autoware Foundation was established and, thanks to a very active community, many corporate members and fast adoption of Autoware code and tools by community members, Autoware.Auto is well on its way to being ready for use in production-intent projects.
The Workshop experience was as much a celebration of the Autoware Foundations’ accomplishments to date, as it was an inspirational and educational experience about how the open source community can move forward with building new and exciting projects built on Autoware.
Many thanks to Kalray for the lovely reception after the Workshop.
We look forward to doing it again next year!
